St Andrews in the Square

Restored 18th-century Glasgow church now used as a cultural venue

St Andrews in the Square is one of Glasgow's finest 18th-century churches, a restored classical building set just east of the city centre. No longer a parish church, it now works as a cultural venue, which has helped keep the interior alive rather than frozen.

It is a good architectural stop if you are walking between the Merchant City, Glasgow Green, and the Barras. The building is quieter than the cathedral or Kelvingrove, but it shows the Georgian layer of a city better known for Victorian confidence and industrial scale.
