Tennent's Wellpark Brewery has been brewing on the same site in the East End of Glasgow since 1556, making it one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in Britain. Tennent's Lager — the ubiquitous pale golden lager that accounts for much of Scottish drinking life — has been produced here since 1885. The brewery is a working industrial facility of considerable scale, and the visitor centre offers tours of the brewing process.
The brewery tours are popular and need to be booked in advance; they run several times daily and finish with a tasting. The East End location gives you a sense of the old industrial city that much of central Glasgow has lost, and the tour itself is thorough on both the history of the brewery and the technical process of making lager at industrial scale.
