Bostadh Iron Age House

Bostadh Iron Age House is a reconstructed roundhouse on Great Bernera, based on buildings exposed by a storm in 1992. The site revealed traces of a coastal settlement dating from roughly 500 BC to 800 AD, and one house was moved and rebuilt on safer ground while the rest was reburied for protection.

Inside, the low passage, central hearth, sleeping recesses, and peat-smoke atmosphere make the archaeology easy to grasp. It pairs well with the wider west Lewis circuit of Callanish, Dun Carloway, and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village.
