The Lump and the Apothecary's Tower

Wooded headland above the harbour with a climbable 1830 folly tower and the Highland Games field

The Lump is the wooded headland on the south side of the harbour, a few minutes' walk from Somerled Square. On top stands the Apothecary's Tower, a small folly of 1830 that was wrecked by a storm in 1978 and rebuilt; you can climb the steps inside for a view over the harbour and across the Sound to Raasay.

The grassy bowl on the headland is the town's events ground. The Skye Highland Games are held here in August, with piping, dancing and heavy events, and it has also hosted the Skye Live music festival.
