Double Door was one of Chicago's best-loved live music venues, tucked into the heart of Wicker Park at 1572 N Milwaukee Ave. The room was intimate enough that every spot felt close to the stage, and the booking leaned toward indie rock, punk, and local acts on the rise. It was the smaller sibling of the Metro, and for two decades it was where you went to see bands before they got big.
The venue closed permanently in 2017 after a bitter lease dispute with the building's new owner. Efforts to reopen in a new location have not materialized. The stretch of Milwaukee Ave around it remains one of the better strips in Chicago for bars, record shops, and vintage clothing.
