Thalia Hall

Magnificently restored 1892 Czech community hall on West 18th Street, now operating as a concert venue and bar complex

A magnificently restored 1892 Czech community hall on West 18th Street, now operating as a music venue, two bars (Dusek's Board & Beer downstairs, Punch House cocktail bar below), and a restaurant. The main hall has a horseshoe balcony and excellent acoustics; it programmes indie rock, jazz, and international music.

The Punch House in the basement is one of the best cocktail bars in Chicago — a narrow room focused on punch bowls and classic cocktails, with a very serious but completely unpretentious approach. Come for a show and stay for cocktails, or just come for cocktails. Pink Line, 18th station.

A story
Thalia Hall was built in 1892 by Czech immigrant John Dusek as a community opera house and multi-use event space for the neighbourhood's Bohemian population. It fell into disuse by the mid-20th century and was eventually restored and reopened in 2013 by a group of Chicago restaurateurs and nightlife operators.
