A seven-block stretch of Southport Avenue between Belmont and Irving Park that concentrates independent boutiques, restaurants, and bars in one of Chicago's most walkable neighbourhood commercial streets. The scale is human — two- and three-storey buildings on a slightly slower street than the main arterials — and the mix of businesses has remained independent and neighbourhood-serving even as surrounding streets have seen chain infiltration.
Highlights include Trader Todd's (tiki bar and Chicago institution), the Music Box Theatre, and a concentration of women's clothing boutiques. The side streets off Southport hold much of Lakeview's best residential architecture. L Brown Line to Southport.
