Jalawe Rock Viewpoint

Jalawe Rock is a granite outcrop on the north-eastern edge of the plateau that gives one of the longest views in Nyika — north into Zambia, east down the escarpment, and (on the clearest days) glimpses of Lake Malawi sparkling far below. The summit is reached by a short scramble from where the dirt track ends.

Late afternoon is the time to come, with the sun behind you and the escarpment colours warming up. Elephants from the lower-altitude part of the park sometimes move through the woodland below the rock; the rangers at Chelinda will know if there has been recent activity.
