Ben A'an

Small, pointed Trossachs hill above Loch Katrine with a view out of all proportion to its 454 metres

Ben A'an is only 454 metres high, but its rocky west top looks like a proper mountain and the view from it is one of the finest in the Trossachs: Loch Katrine stretching west, Loch Achray below, Ben Venue opposite and the Arrochar Alps on the horizon. The steep path starts from the car park on the shore of Loch Achray.

The name is itself a Walter Scott invention, an anglicised guess at the original Gaelic, which may have been Am Binnean, "the pinnacle". It's a good choice on a short winter day or as an evening walk in summer.
