Conic Hill

Short, sharp hill above Balmaha on the Highland Boundary Fault, with a famous view along the line of islands

Conic Hill rises steeply behind the village of Balmaha on the east shore. It sits right on the Highland Boundary Fault, and from the top you can see the fault line running across the loch as a string of islands — Inchcailloch, Torrinch, Creinch and Inchmurrin — with lowland farmland on one side and mountains on the other. On a clear day you can see as far as Goat Fell on Arran.

The West Highland Way crosses the hill, and there's a car park at the bottom in Balmaha. Most people stop on the sub-summit at 361 m, which has the best view. It's extremely popular on fine weekends.
