Analamazoatra Special Reserve is the core of the Andasibe park complex — 1,500 hectares of humid rainforest directly accessible from the village, making it the most visited protected area in Madagascar. Despite its small size, the density of wildlife here is remarkable. At least eleven lemur species have been recorded, and four or five are regularly seen on guided walks.
The reserve has a network of trails graded by difficulty and duration, ranging from a one-hour circuit to a full-day adventure route. A licensed guide is mandatory and can be hired at the park entrance. Short walks cover the most reliably productive lemur territory; longer circuits get you into quieter forest with better birding opportunities. Night walks — separately ticketed, arranged at the entrance — are especially rewarding for chameleons, dwarf lemurs, and woolly lemurs.
