Things to Do

Andasibe is first and foremost a wildlife destination. The core activity is guided walks in the rainforest — morning walks for lemurs, evening and night walks for chameleons, frogs, and nocturnal lemurs. Every park visit requires a licensed guide, hired at the park entrances.

The Analamazoatra Reserve is the place to start: compact, well-guided, and virtually guaranteed to show you indri on a morning walk. For a more immersive experience, Mantadia National Park requires a vehicle and a full day but offers wilder forest and better chances of diademed sifaka. Night walks in Analamazoatra are outstanding for chameleons and nocturnal lemurs. Birding rewards early risers with a high density of Madagascar endemics. The managed Lemur Island at Vakona Lodge offers close contact with habituated animals — a different experience from wild viewing, but popular and worthwhile.
