Mantadia National Park is the most accessible place in the world to reliably encounter the diademed sifaka. These are large, conspicuous lemurs — adults weigh up to six kilograms — and unlike the more cryptic forest species, sifaka tend to move boldly through the mid-canopy, often at heights where you can watch them for extended periods.
Guides know the habituated groups and their current territories. Sightings are not guaranteed on every visit but are likely with an experienced guide who knows the park well. The best light for photography is in the morning when sifaka descend to lower branches to warm up in the sun. Combine a sifaka-focused walk with a general forest circuit for the best chance of multiple species. Transport to Mantadia from the Andasibe village can be arranged through local guesthouses.
