General Luna — known to everyone simply as GL — is the main town and social centre of Siargao. It spreads loosely along the east coast of the island near Cloud 9, a maze of sandy lanes lined with surf shops, repair shacks, cafes, and guesthouses. The vibe is deliberately low-key: tricycles and motorbikes outnumber cars, roosters wake you at dawn, and the whole town is a five-minute walk from end to end.
The beach at GL itself is less impressive than the islands offshore, but the town's energy in the evenings is hard to beat. Restaurants spill onto the sand, bars stay open late, and the crowd is an easy mix of Filipino surfers, foreign long-stayers, and backpackers on the island-hopping circuit. Most of Siargao's eating, drinking, and nightlife options are concentrated here or within a short motorbike ride.
