Getting There

Flying is the standard approach. Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, and AirAsia all operate direct flights to Sayak Airport (IATA: IAO) from Manila and Cebu. Flight time from Manila is about 1 hour and 40 minutes; from Cebu about 50 minutes. Book early during peak surf season (September to November) and around Holy Week, when flights fill fast.

The alternative is ferry from Surigao City on the mainland. The crossing takes about three hours by RORO (roll-on, roll-off) ferry and departs multiple times daily. Surigao City is accessible by bus from Butuan or by plane from Manila and Cebu. Most travellers coming overland from Mindanao use this route.

From Sayak Airport, tricycles and vans shuttle passengers to Dapa and General Luna. The journey to General Luna takes about 45 minutes to an hour by tricycle. Motorbike taxis are faster if you have minimal luggage. Many guesthouses in General Luna can arrange transport if contacted in advance.
