Symphony Center (Orchestra Hall)

Symphony Center on Michigan Avenue, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1904 in a Daniel Burnham building

Home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, one of the five historically dominant American orchestras, in a 1905 building by D.H. Burnham on Michigan Avenue. The CSO under Georg Solti (1969–1991) produced some of the most acclaimed orchestral recordings of the 20th century; the orchestra remains among the world's most technically accomplished.

The main hall seats 2,500 and has some of the best acoustics of any concert hall in the American Midwest. Single tickets are available through the box office, including same-day rush tickets at substantially reduced prices. The building itself — with its Griffin Court lobby added in 1997 — is worth seeing for the preserved Burnham interior. Michigan Avenue at Adams.
