Zovo-Chipolo Forest

Zovo-Chipolo is one of the larger patches of evergreen montane forest on the plateau, tucked into a fold of hills where the climate stays moist enough to support tall trees and a dense understorey. A short circular walking trail runs through it from a clearly marked turn-off on the main park track.

The change from open grassland to closed forest is abrupt and complete: cool, dim, full of birdsong from cinnamon-chested bee-eaters, white-tailed crested flycatchers, and bar-tailed trogons. Take a guide from Chelinda and walk slowly; the birds and the forest specialities (samango monkeys, blue duiker) are easy to miss in a hurry.
