Lincoln Park

The neighbourhood stretching north from Old Town along the lakefront, named for the vast park it borders. Lincoln Park is prosperous, green, and well-served with restaurants and bars — the kind of neighbourhood where young professionals settle and stay for decades. The park itself — Chicago's largest, at over 1,200 acres — runs the full length of the neighbourhood along Lake Michigan.

The Lincoln Park Zoo is free, which is both unusual and excellent — one of the last major urban zoos in the country without an admission charge. North Avenue Beach draws enormous crowds in summer. Depaul University occupies a stretch of the southern section. Armitage Avenue and Lincoln Avenue are the main restaurant and shopping strips; Halsted Street has the most concentrated nightlife. The neighbourhood has some of Chicago's most handsome Victorian greystones.
