South Loop

The neighbourhood immediately south of the Loop, stretched along the lakefront between Grant Park and the Museum Campus. The South Loop's transformation from industrial and derelict to residential and cultural is one of the more dramatic in Chicago — the neighbourhood was largely empty warehouses and printing plants twenty years ago; today it is dense with new apartment buildings and some of the city's best museums.

The Museum Campus anchors the lakefront end: the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and Adler Planetarium all sit within walking distance of each other on a landscaped peninsula jutting into Lake Michigan. Soldier Field, rebuilt in 2003 inside its original 1924 colonnades, is home to the Chicago Bears. Chinatown lies at the south edge of the neighbourhood, offering some of the city's best dim sum.
