A Byzantine-style Orthodox cathedral on North Leavitt Street, built in 1903 and funded in part by a $4,000 personal donation from Tsar Nicholas II — a fact commemorated by a plaque inside. The cathedral serves as the spiritual anchor of Chicago's Ukrainian community and is one of the most architecturally striking religious buildings on the North Side.
The interior is richly decorated with iconostasis, frescoes, and traditional Orthodox ornamentation. Services are open to visitors; the building can be viewed from outside at any time. The surrounding streets retain much of the character of the old Ukrainian neighbourhood — several Ukrainian restaurants, bakeries, and community organizations. Metro Blue Line, Division or Chicago station.
