The Silver Room on Milwaukee Avenue has been a Wicker Park boutique retail and community gathering space since 1997, hosting music events, pop-up markets, and the annual Silver Room Block Party in summer — a free music festival on Milwaukee Avenue that has become one of the neighbourhood's major annual events. The store carries independent fashion, accessories, and vinyl records alongside a rotating cast of small designers.
The Block Party (usually in July) shuts down several blocks of Milwaukee for a day of live hip-hop and soul music, vendors, and neighbourhood congregation. The Silver Room itself is worth visiting year-round for its consistent curatorial point of view about what contemporary independent retail looks like in a gentrified neighbourhood. Milwaukee at Damen.
