South Side Community Art Center has been open since 1940 and played a major role in giving Black artists in Chicago a place to exhibit. Its gallery remains open to visitors and focuses especially on African-American art and South Side cultural history.
It pairs well with other Black Metropolis sites in Bronzeville, where the neighbourhood's architecture and institutions tell a larger story than any single building.
