A small museum in Andersonville, at the north end of the Lakeview district, documenting the history of Swedish and Scandinavian immigration to Chicago from the 1840s through the 20th century. The Andersonville neighbourhood was the centre of Chicago's Swedish community for most of the early 20th century; the commercial street (Clark Street) retains Swedish-named businesses and a Swedish bakery that have been operating for decades.
The museum is modest in scale but well-curated, with a children's section documenting immigration experience and a permanent collection including folk art, photographs, and documents. Free admission on Tuesdays. The surrounding Andersonville commercial strip, with its Swedish bakery, Scandinavian imports stores, and newer restaurants, is worth a half-day visit. Clark Street at Foster; L Red Line to Berwyn.
